Rasam is a popular and a day to day or daily-must-to-be dish at most South Indian homes. Without which any meal or special or festive meal is incomplete. Rasam is a best digestive dish after every meal. Special Indian Soup for winter season. Not only best digestive its one of the best for common cold or fever.

Rasam can also be called as a traditional South Indian soup, rasam recipe  has many varieties, like pappu/ dal rasam, tomato rasam, plain pepper rasam, each have its own taste to render.

Today, I am showing here a simple rasam recipe with some dal stock, pepper, jeera, garlic. In this recipe we are not adding whole dal but only stock, with this rasam gets dal flavour.

Pepper-Jeera-Dal rasam recipe is easy and quick to cook - any one can prepare this with ease. tastes good with hot rice and ghee, or take a bowl full of hot rasam and sip through after an heavy meal for good digestion. This is best remedy for common cold and fever as well. or during winter season to prevent any infections. 
In South India hot rice with rasam and ghee is also fed to babies over 1 year, tangyness in rasam is liked by kids.

This pepper-jeera-dal rasam can be easily prepared while making Sambar, just remove some dal stock aside for this rasam recipe, no need to unnecessarily cook dal for this recipe. on those days when you dont cook dal for sambar, then you can go for plain pepper or tomato rasam.

Cuisine: Indian / South Indian
Cook time: 5 minutes

Ingredients 

    1. Tamarind  - 1 small lemon size
    2. Dal stock - 1/2 cup
    3. Pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
    4. Jeera - 1/2 teaspoon
    5. Garlic - 4 cloves
    6. Coriander and  curry leaves 
    7. Salt to taste
Tempering 
    1. Oil - 1 teaspoon
    2. Mustard - 1/4 teaspoon
    3. Hing / Asafoetida - Pinch 
    4. Red Chillies - 2 

Instructions  

    1. In a large bowl, take dal stock 
    2. Add tamarind extract or juice to dal stock 
    3. Crush pepper and jeera and add to the tamarind mix 
    4. Add in salt and crushed garlic, curry leaves and coriander leaves
    5. Heat 1 teaspoon oil in a pan 
    6. Add mustard, jeera, red chillies and hing/asafoetida 
    7. Then add the tamarind and dal mix to this 
    8. Let this boil for just 2 minutes and remove to a bowl..
    9. Hot and tasty Pepper jeera dal rasam is ready 


Tips:

Add freshly crushed pepper and jeera to get best flavorful rasam 


Note:

Do not let this boil for more than 2 minutes

How to Make Rasam Recipe | Make simple Pepper Jeera Dal Rasam - Winter season Indian Soup with Step-by-step pictures


In a large bowl, take dal stock


Add tamarind extract or juice to dal stock 


Crush pepper and jeera and add to the tamarind mix 




Add in salt and crushed garlic, curry leaves and coriander leaves





Heat 1 teaspoon oil in a pan , add mustard , red chillies and hing/asafoetida



Then add the tamarind and dal mix to this



Let this boil for just 2 minutes and remove to a bowl..



Hot and tasty Pepper jeera dal rasam is ready
