Avarekalu rotti
Goes without saying rice flour rotti is a special popular breakfast item in
Karnataka. We use rice flour with some more veggies, onions and specially
avarekalu tender one's in the season. Tasty with less oil recipe can be
eaten even with or without
chutney. Loved by lunch box, this can be a crispy and spill proof for the
box.
Akki means rice in kannada, this rotti is made so soft that even dosa
sometimes is hard when compared. This remains soft for longer time, apt for
lunch-box. This rotti is eaten with
tomato sambar
without dal or any non veg curries
Rice item with goose berries , this is a very quick to cook if rice is
cooked beforehand or even left over rice can be easily used. Usually made
for breakfast and also one of the variety on a banana leaf - for any special
occasion or even festivals
Coconut rice is a super easy recipe and a tasty one with mild sweetish
flavor of coconut. Makes a healthy breakfast and a lunch box
item.
Uppittu is again a staple food of south, variety of uppittu are made
without any hesitation. one is badhane alu uppittu / brinjal potato uppittu.
when these veggie are added it makes the dish healthier and
tastier.
Vade made of urad dal is known for its energy. This is eaten with
chutney for breakfast in South India. Kids love this most. This is a filling
breakfast.
Uttappam is made with the sour idli / dosa batter, when batter is made
first day idli or dosa is made then next day or after that Uttappam is
prepared with the same batter. Some veggies, onions, coconut, peanuts, green
gram, chillies, carrots, beets are added to make them spicy. Here beetroot
is added to make.
Menthya bath or methy pulav is a one pot dish, easy and quicker to make.
either prepared in cooker or open pan. Menthya bath is eaten with curd,
onion raita. When carried in lunch box makes a perfect lunch
out.
Sagu prepared with mixed veggies makes a simple and healthy breakfast
recipe. A mild and creamy side dish for puri, chapathi or even soft akki
rotti.
Tomato sambar without dal is light for breakfast, this again a traditional
recipe combo for Idli, dosa, chapathi, soft akki rotti. Chutney is a regular
side dish made for idli/ dosa but this can become a added item in your
beakfast recipe list. Try sweet chutney for idli a traditional and a quicker
recipe.
Paddu is again made with the sour idli/ dosa batter. Many different veggies
and onions with chillies give a different taste each time. Beetroots,
carrots, sprouts, greens like pudina, coriander can give a distinct
taste. Paddu can be eaten with
coconut chutney
or ghee and chutney powder spread on hot paddu's.
Rice is cooked beforehand for this and a brinjal gravy with vangi bath
powder is prepared and mixed with rice, in Karnataka rice bath or chitranna
is popular for breakfast. This is a tastier and good one for lunch box
recipes as well.
Ragi / finger millet being a healthy millet many breakfast items can be
prepared with this ingredient, one being sweet payasam and til or ellu
powder sprinkled over, this alone can be eaten for breakfast or along with
spicy flavor version of ragi semiya. This can also become a healthy
dessert.
Kadlepuri/ puffed rice is again a healthy option, kadlepuri is used for
churmuri chats, but this can also become a major ingredient for a soft and
spicy uppittu. tasty, soft and a quicker menu for breakfast or snack.
During mango season, raw mango (thothapuri) is lavishly used in many
recipes, mango is grated and seasoned with chillies and salt to make a
simple and quick breakfast to mix with pre cooked rice or left over rice,
this again a good option for a lunch box or even for a outing with
family
Protein rich breakfast made of mixed lentils, very spicy with red chillies
