Heerekai also known as thuppada heerekai - as the name, this vegetable tastes like ghee for sure specially in this heerekai palya recipe. Heerekai in english is ridge gourd.
Though this is a simple recipe, the taste is too good and liked by all. Beerakayi curry as called in telugu goes very well with rice side dish or even when mixed with rice becomes a perfect lunch-box recipe.
When ever we make this curry we also make the heerekai peel majjige huli or ridge gourd peel curd curry, which is a very apt dish for this summer as well. Do try both without fail.
This recipe is so versatile you can use any spice powder that's available at home. heerekai palya can be made with vangibath powder, bisibele bath powder, sambar powder or just chilli powder all these gives different taste and goes well with rice.
Heat oil, season with mustard and dals and fry onions and ridge gourd, cook with spice powder and salt. yes the simple perkankai poriyal recipe is ready to serve, this is as simple made in just 5 to 10 minutes.
Ridge gourd being watery veggie suitable for summers and also gets cooked quicker - make this veggie and mix with hot rice and ghee to
serve for lunch, dinner or to carry in lunch box on any busy days.
Heerekai or beerakai bajji is another tasty recipe in this vegetable, just like onion bajji dip these ridge gourd thin slices in kadale hittu / gramflour batter and deep fry to get tasty crisp bajji's. And also please try some onion crispy pakoda's, mavinakai badhane saaru/ raw mango brinjal sambar, thovve /hesarubele thovve all these being summer recipes .... from this blog
